Khashim Kurban

The Uyghur and Kazakh artist Khashim Kurban (Ashim Kurbanov) was born in 1961 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. In 1961 he moved to Almaty, Kazakhstan to live and create here.

1976 – graduated from the Almaty Art College named after N.V.Gogol.

1981 – graduated from the Tashkent Theater and Art Institute named after A.N. Ostrovsky, Faculty of monumental painting.

1981-1984 worked at the Almaty Art College named after N.V. Gogol teaching special disciplines.

Currently works at the Symbat Academy of Design and Technology as a lecturer in the Design and Scenography Department.

1984-1987 worked at the Almaty Theater and Art Institute named after T.K. Zhurgenov teaching at the Department of Painting and Monumental Decorative Painting.

since 1982 participated in numerous Republican, Soviet Union and international exhibitions.

since 1998 – a member of the Union of Artists of Kazakhstan.

2005 – laureate of the “Ilham” award Club of Uyghur Patrons.

2008 – awarded the honorary title “Honored Arts Worker of the Republic of Kazakhstan”.

2010 – hit the Kazakhstan Book of Records 2008-2009 KINES as the author who made more than 1000 pumpkin artworks in 25 years of creative activity.

2013 – laureate of the III degree in the nomination of “Illustrations” in the Open Central Asia Book Forum literary competition, Festival of Literature, London, UK.

2015 – his artwork “The Silk Road Constellation” took 2nd place in the national exhibition dedicated to the 55th anniversary of the Kazakh Khanate, Almaty, Kazakhstan.
